Pearlena Johnson

Effective 9 pm Saturday, March 21, 2020, New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy, had mandated by executive order #107 that all New Jersey residents shall remain home or in their place of residence unless they are obtaining essential goods or services from businesses or government agencies.  All gatherings of individuals, such as funeral services, parties, celebrations, or other social events, are cancelled.

These restrictions will remain in effect until further notice from the state governor.  Due to the current restrictions, there will not be a funeral service for Pearlena Johnson.

The family is grateful, and would like to extend their sincere thanks, for all the support and condolences from friends and the community in their time of mourning.

Obituary

Pearlena Johnson, 93, passed away in Newton, NJ on March 29, 2020.  She was born on October 18, 1926, in Tuskegee, AL.  Before her passing at Newton Medical Center, Newton, NJ, she resided at Valley View Rehabilitation Center in Newton, NJ.  Pearlena lived in Alabama for most of her life, and in her last years, resided in New Jersey with her granddaughter, Shazel Muhammad.   

Pearlena was a nurse and had no qualms about making it known she was the best. She took pride in her education, her family, and her appearance. She shared knowledge whenever and however she could, even by mail.

She loved her family, especially the youngest generations. Pearlena’s sense of fashion had her dressed to the “T” everywhere she went. She loved to sing and dance, and was the life of any room she was in. She was loved by all who met her.

She spent her last years surrounded by her granddaughter, Shazel Muhammad of Sparta, NJ; great grandchildren, Seven Muhammad of Kenvil, NJ, and Shakira Muhammad of Jackson, NJ; and great-great grandchildren, Abijah Jefferson of Jackson, NJ, and Maya Jefferson of Jackson, NJ, all of whom survived her.

 Pearlena is predeceased by her son, Cornell Johnson. She is survived by her son, Richard K. Johnson and his wife, Gladys of Ohio; grandchildren, Richard Johnson, Jr., and Kindra Johnson; and great grandson, Kerry Jordan Johnson.

Pearlena will be missed dearly. "We love you, Nana, and we'll miss you” -  Maya and Abijah Jefferson.
