Deborah Mayhue Obituary

Deborah E. Taylor Mayhue, 65, of Oakhurst, NJ passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ.

She was born on September 9, 1955, in Salisbury, North Carolina; moving to Neptune, NJ when she was a child. She attended Neptune Senior High School and graduated in 1971. She earned various professional certificates in Business Administration and Managerial Studies, which she put to good use at the Neptune Township Public Library. She retired (twice) after 35 years of service. Her “library family” held a special place in her heart.

She was a loving and supportive mother, always encouraging her children to reach for their dreams. She was a wonderful grandmother, affectionately called Mema and MiMi by her grandchildren. Her face always lit up when she talked about them, and she spoiled them as only a grandmother could. She was an avid reader, making weekly trips to the library (after she retired) to get the latest new books.

She was a member of St. Stephen AME Zion Church in Asbury Park, NJ where she was a part of the W.H. & O.M (missionary) society, the youth ministry, and the mass choir. She also loved to sing.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Lee O. Taylor and Verna Taylor Holman, her devoted husband and soul mate of 38 years, Oscar Leon Mayhue Jr., brothers, Howard and Rayford Taylor, and sisters, Joyce Young and Doris Newman.

She is survived by her three children, Yolanda Taylor (Stuart) of Oakhurst, NJ, Deidre Seaman (Barry) of Eatontown, NJ, and Ali Jamar Taylor Mayhue of Oakhurst, NJ, 3 grandchildren, Loren K. Jackson, and Chelsea and Brielle Seaman, 3 sisters, Barbara Hardin (Charles) of Salisbury, NC, Janette Credle (Guy) of Neptune City, NJ, and Catherine Stewart (Curtis) of Neptune, NJ, 1 brother, Lee O. Taylor Jr. (Norma) of Neptune, NJ, her lifelong best friend/ sister, Clarice O. Brown, special niece, Angelia Sterling, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.
