Obituary
Barrington A. Campbell, age 66, of Lakewood NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, July 6, 2020, at Ocean County Medical Center, Brick NJ. He was born on July 2, 1954, in Kingston Jamaica, in a small town called Cockburn Pen. Barrington was the first born to his parents, Frank Joseph Campbell and Diana Thompson, formally known as Diana Wright.
Barrington was born with a physical disability that also affected his speech. His parents were told that he will never be able to walk or talk, but at the age of 4, Barrington started to walk and was able to talk though he still had challenges in doing both. He attended a private school at the age of seven. He never went to high school; however, he had the ability to understand and intelligently converse with people from all walks of life.
Due to his physical disability which caused him to shake, neighboring friends gave him the nick name, “Shaky.” As a toddler and into his teens, he was raised by his grandmother, Mother Wright, who also gave him a pet name, “Gene”, after his grandfather, Eugene. Despite his challenges, Barrington was an over comer and never allowed his physical disposition to prevent him from accomplishing the things he desired in life.
His first job in Jamaica was working as a Manuel Shoemaker for a company called “All Brother’s Shoe Factory”. During the early 70’s, both his parents immigrated to America where they lived their separate lives. During this time, as an adult, Barrington’s mother filed for him to come and be reunited back with her in the United States of America, where he was able to also have the opportunity to see his father again.
When Barrington was in his early 30’s, he gained his first employment in America, working for McDonalds in Lakewood NJ, for more than 10 years. Everyone knew him and said he was such a pleasant person. He obtained much recognition and awards with this company.
In 1995, he was hired as a custodian in the operating room at Brick Hospital, Brick NJ, now known as Ocean County Medical Center. He received an outstanding worker’s award and many other recognitions for his work ethics and commitment to this company. In 2015, after being employed with this company for more than 20 years, Barrington retired.
Barrington enjoyed the simple things in life. He was a sharp dresser and caught the eye of many females. As a hobby, he loved to listen to music at home, meet with friends to play dominos, spend quality time with his children and family when he was able to, and most of all, he loved the Lord. Barrington was known for his witty, infectious personality and a smile that would brighten up a room and warm every heart that was in his presence. He was loved by many and will be truly missed.
He is survived by both his loving parents, Frank Joseph Campbell of Orlando, FL and Diana Thompson of Lakewood, NJ; wife, Cindy Campbell of Lakewood NJ; he also leaves behind his beautiful children, Nicole Campbell of Brick, NJ, Jacqueline Campbell of Brick, NJ, Jammeel Campbell of Brick, NJ, and Timothy Campbell of Asbury Park, NJ; siblings on his mother's side, Petrona Sylvester of London, England, Maria Sylvester of London, England, Beverly Sylvester of Freehold, NJ, and Rev. Sharon Sylvester of Neptune, NJ; siblings on his father’s side, Pastor Monica Campbell of Landover, MD, Yvonne Campbell of Laurel, MD, Junior Washington of Toronto, Canada, Frank Jr. of Orlando, FL, Michael Campbell of Hyattsville, MD, Carol Williams of Silver Springs, MD, and Keith Campbell of Toronto, Canada; two grandchildren, Rayven Johnson and Mekhi Campbell; and a host of nephews, nieces, uncles and aunts.
